Last week Tulkinghorn pondered on the diversity policy of Birmingham-based Martineau Johnson and the firm’s non-discriminatory policy towards “mental status”, as revealed in its submission for The Lawyer Career Report 2007 (‘You Don’t Have To Be Mad To Work Here…’, 5 March).
The firm’s HR team has since been in touch.
“The word was ‘marital’,” a succinct email from the firm’s HR head reads. “I’m happy to provide an eye-care voucher free of charge for anyone reading this section of the Career Report questionnaire.”
A chastened Tulkinghorn will be taking up the HR head’s offer of new pince-nez shortly. Maybe that will make it clear as to whether addressing the email “for the benefit of Tulkington” was some form of HR personnel wit.
