Empire Stores shops around to find new legal advisers

LEEDS firm Walker Morris has replaced Hammond Suddards as principal legal advisers to the UK's fifth largest home shopping company, Empire Stores Group.

Hammonds provided corporate and general advice to the company for over five years.

Walker Morris will also take on the company's trade mark work, previously handled by Liverpool-based trade mark agents WP Thompson.

Empire's company secretary and in-house solicitor Bill Oakes says the decision was not taken lightly. “We have received an excellent service from Hammond Suddards over several years,” says Oakes.

“However, our restructuring process and review of costs has meant a close examination of every area of our business, including professional advisers.

He says seven law firms submitted tenders for the work.

Hammond's corporate finance partner Ian Greenfield says the firm is “very disappointed” at losing the contract.
