Egorov to become first Russian firm in ‘Londongrad’

Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners is to become the first Russian law firm to launch in London.

The firm, which was founded just 14 years ago, will be opening its doors in the UK tomorrow (24 April).

The Russian law firm, which is made up of 70 lawyers, took the bold
decision to “break London” as it believes that the UK’s capital “is at the world’s centre of the legal profession”.

Dimitry Afanasiev, the co-founder and managing partner of Egorov, said the other reason for moving into the UK market is the rapid growth of the Russian business community in “Londongrad”.

“The firm doesn’t intend to compete with UK law firms,” said Afanasiev. “We aim to offer Russian clients project management services out of the London office while working closely with London’s legal community.”

Finance partner Allen Thomas, who joined from Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison earlier in the year, will be heading the London office with a view to developing Egorov’s business in Western Europe.
