Dechert opens Chicago office as expansion continues

US firm Dechert has opened its fourth office this year, launching in Chicago with the hire of three litigation lawyers from local firm Katten Muchin Rosenman.

The former head of Katten’s Chicago office and chairman of the firm’s litigation practice David Kistenbroker will lead the new base alongside security litigation partners Carl Volz and Joni Jacobsen. Volz and Jacobsen both focus on the defense of publicly traded companies.

Dechert chairman Andrew Levander said in a statement: “This group is a great foundation as we go forward with that strategy of growth.”

The firm has already opened offices in Dubai (17 April 2012), Frankfurt (17 January 2012) and Kazakhstan (5 April 2012) this year, poaching an 11-strong energy team from rival Chadbourne & Clarke for the Almaty office.

Dechert is also ramping up its China presence with the hire of a private equity partner in its Beijing office and plans to open in Shanghai in the near future (18 May 2012).

The developments follow a year of positive financial growth for the US firm, with last year seeing revenue per lawyer growing 4.7 per cent to $900,000 and average profit per equity partner increasing by 5 per cent to $2.11m (9 February 2012).
