Commercial and regional bar miss out in silks list 2000

The commercial bar and the regions have been dealt the poorest hand by this year's silks list.

Most noticeably, magic circle sets One Essex Court and Fountain Court failed to secure a single new QC between them, although they are both understood to have made several applications.

However, this can simply be seen as redressing the balance for the past few years.

The public law sector has been most successful, with the Lord Chancellor seemingly anticipating a booming area as a result of the incoming Human Rights Act.

Blackstone Chambers secured two appointments as did the newly formed Matrix Chambers, where Ben Emmerson and Tim Owen get the ultimate seal of approval.
