Addleshaws associates miss retreat after partner Paris jollyAddleshaw Goddard’s associate retreat has been spiked because the firm, which this month held its first-ever foreign partnership conference, has refused to fund it.

The associate get-together was cancelled over worries about the current business environment, while most of the firm’s 185 partners spent two days at the InterContinental Paris Le Grand earlier this month.

Previous partner retreats have been held at The Grove Hotel in Hertfordshire.

Managing partner Mark Jones, who stressed that the associate retreat was not an annual event, said there were competing priorities for discretionary spend.

“When we were doing our budget this year we decided not to have an associate retreat given the business environment,” he added.

Jones claimed the Paris trip was justified as it was “part of a working event with our French relationship firms [Jeantet and UGGC]”.
