White & Case has chosen the University of Law (ULaw) to provide prep courses for the Solicitors Qualification Exam (SQE) to its future trainees.

The firm currently partners with BPP for provision of the Graduate Diploma in Law and Legal Practice Course, but will transition from one law school to the other as those courses are phased out. The timing of the switch is still to be determined.

Partner Inigo Esteve, who leads White & Case’s trainee solicitor programme in London, said: “We are pleased to have appointed The Universty of Law to develop and deliver bespoke SQE prep courses for our future trainees. ULaw’s expertise and innovative approach to learning will ensure that our trainees develop both legal and professional skills that ensure White & Case continues to deliver outstanding service to clients in an ever-changing and more complex environment for legal services.”

In late 2020, BPP won the mandate to provide six City giants with SQE prep courses. However, Clifford Chance and Taylor Wessing have signed up with ULaw, while Reed Smith has taken a radically different route, partnering with The College of Legal Practice and Barbri for a system where future trainees will study within the firm rather than at law school
