Newcastle-based Watson Burton has promoted six associates to the partnership, the firm’s largest promotional round ever.
The firm has made five promotions in Tyneside and one in Leeds, more than the amount made in the last five financial years combined.
Watson Burton has not made up anyone since 2005-06, when construction and real estate gained one partner each. Before that the firm had not promoted anyone since 2003-04.
The move comes amid talk of opening up the tightly held equity at the firm, after senior partner Andrew Hoyle was ejected in a partnership coup (The Lawyer, 26 September 2006).
In Newcastle the commercial property, commercial, insurance, construction and charities teams have gained one partner apiece, while in Leeds the firm has one new corporate finance partner.
The firm has also promoted five assistants to associate level.
