<a class=Watson Burton in redundancy consultation with 14″ />Newcastle-headquartered Watson Burton is the latest firm to moot job losses, launching redundancy consultations with up to 14 staff.

The jobs of eight fee-earners and six support staff are at risk in the non-contentious corporate, wealth management private client and property teams. It is understood no partners will be affected.

Watson Burton senior partner Rob Langley (pictured) said he regretted making the cuts, but added: “There is a running chance that we will redeploy at least some of them.”

He explained that the firm’s London and Leeds offices would not be affected and that the firm was looking to recruit in London in construction and IT.

The firm’s wealth management private client team is likely to be the worst hit by redundancies. The family team of one partner is not affected by the redundancy consultation.

The firm employs around 300 staff, 100 of whom are qualified lawyers.

Langley said that the firm’s half-year figures were on target for a turnover of £23m, which would be a modest 4 per cent increase on last year’s £22.1m.
