Aleen Gulvanessian, partner and corporate governance expert at Eversheds, has commented on a study that indicates that UK plc has been quicker to embrace diversity than large firms in the US.
According to the study, the UK’s biggest firms have four times more foreign directors than their US counterparts and female representation on boards is also growing.
Gulvanessian said: ‘It is obviously encouraging to see progress on female representation at board level but the real story here is that diversity in the broader sense is being embraced. Growing foreign representation on UK boards shows that we understand that UK growth depends on global expansion. What’s more, UK businesses increasingly see themselves as operating in a global marketplace.’
