Turner, Jon – Hot 100

Monckton Chambers junior Jon Turner had a key role in the biggest competition case this year – the Competition Appeal Tribunal’s (CAT) hearing of JJB Sports and all:sports’ appeal against the Office of Fair Trading’s (OFT) decision in the football shirts price-fixing case.

Turner was led by Stephen Morris QC of 20 Essex Street for the CAT, but he assumed joint responsibility for witness cross-examination, which proved particularly damaging to JJB Sports’ and all:sports’ case.

Highly damaging details of a diary kept by all:sports chairman David Hughes came out in the appeal. Hughes had written in three colours of biro: “Agree Man United and England prices with everybody.”

Turner is standing counsel to the Director General of Fair Trading (DGFT) John Vickers. He has acted for the OFT in several key cases, including Napp Pharmaceuticals v DGFT and Bettercare v DGFT. Surely one of the silks of the future.
