Risk is a key issue for every company – how to manage it, how to monitor it and how to educate your employees. And risk is the unifying factor behind several of this week’s legal briefings.

In a post noting that “risk relocated is still risky” Encompass Corporation ’s co-founder Roger Carson looks at the changing shape of the legal market and the push to reduce operational costs.

Carson argues that the move to outsource tasks such as search and discovery increases the risk of human error affecting results. But, he says, investing in technology for such processes can manage and reduce that risk.

Taking a different angle on risk is Ogier . The firm’s head of risk and compliance Peter Derrick provides some helpful advice to companies on minimising reputational risk. Confidential client information should be kept to the office and a culture of risk management around social media should be instilled, Derrick argues. Click here for more information.

Risk is also on the mind of the European Commission. Shepherd and Wedderburn highlights a recent consultation that will assist in the Commission’s assessment of remuneration for banks and investment firms. The Commission is aiming to impose a limit on bonuses that can be awarded to risk-takers in such institutions.
