Thank you Marco Pierre White

Withers is to find itself sitting opposite Pierre White yet again after the Michelin-starred maestro accused the firm of stirring up his divorce.

The Court of Appeal has ruled that Withers must face a claim that its family partner Marcus Dearle instructed Pierre White’s ex-wife to steal his mail in order to soup up her case (see story).

Mr Justice Eady first threw out the claim last November, on the basis that Pierre White was simply stewing over the high-profile break up of his 16-year marriage.

But the appeal judges said that while it may be a case of sour grapes, “solicitors are officers of the court and if they are shown to have done wrong they should face judgment of the court”.

Lord Justice Sedley went on to concede that “the desire for vengeance on the lawyers acting for an estranged spouse is as common as it is irrational”.

Details of the original separation are not known and suggestions that the star of Hell’s Kitchen is trying to have his cake and eat it after forking out for a settlement might be hard to swallow.

Kitchen nightmares indeed…..
