A recent press release read: “I thought that this conference taking place on 29 November would be of particular interest to you. It is a very hot topic at the moment and the invited speakers should certainly raise some thought-provoking debate. If you require any further details do please come back to us.”

All well and good, apart from the fact that the message contained not a single detail about what the conference might be about. Or where it was being held. Or who the speakers were. Or why PR companies exist.
