Barclays has made a number of high profile general counsel appointments in the US as part of an ‘alignment’ exercise with the rest of the business.
Casey Kobi, a former Sidley Austin associate, has been promoted to global head of banking at Barclays.
For the past four years, Kobi has been head of banking legal for the Americas and began his in-house career with Barclays in 2005. Prior to that, he was a vice president of the investment banking division of Lehman Brothers.
In a three-party ICC arbitration concerning the financing of an international project contract, Thomas Weibel, Claudia Walz, and James A. Nickovich successfully defended their client against allegations of corruption and claims for substantial payments. The arbitral tribunal followed the arguments of the two respondents and fully rejected the all claims.
