South east

The South East is a unique legal region in the UK, in that London squats right in the middle of it. Many firms fish out of their lucrative local ponds, and some have also begun lowering their hooks into London, often at the expense of City-based firms.

Being able to undercut on rates because of their lower overheads outside of the M25 is an attractive proposition these days.

Some large South East firms, such as DMH Stallard and Thomas Eggar, have been merging and expanding aggressively into new locations, including London, where DMH Stallard’s shiny new offices are intended to make an impact.

Others have different strategies, with ASB Law shutting offices, EMW Law finding Milton Keynes a little too small for its ambitions and Cripps Harries Hall, by contrast, remaining very much in love with Tunbridge Wells. There are all sorts in the South East and this special report examines some of the trends being experienced in the region.
