Slaughters keeps taylor, cc gets Wimpey

Slaughter and May was in an enviable position last week when two longstanding FTSE100 clients were in talks to merge. George Wimpey and Taylor Woodrow announced that they were in advanced £5bn discussions to form the UK’s largest housebuilder, Taylor Wimpey. Slaughters corporate and commercial partner Jeff Twentyman is client relationship partner for Taylor Woodrow, while corporate partner Kathryn Davis normally manages the Wimpey relationship for Slaughters, but on this occasion Clifford Chance was gifted the work for Wimpey, with corporate partner Guy Norman leading. Norman also led the team for Wimpey in the recent consolidation of the construction industry: Wimpey was a failed bidder for Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer client Wilson Bowden, which eventually went to Barratt for £2.13bn. And representing Barratt? None other than Slaughters.
