Slaughters’ HK office boosted by partner return

Slaughter and May has enticed Morgan Stanley in-house counsel Lisa Chung back to the firm’s Hong Kong office after a year with the global investment bank.

Chung is set to rejoin Slaughters as a partner in July, having moved to Morgan Stanley at the beginning of 2005, as first revealed on (2 May).

Morgan Stanley is a longstanding client of Slaughters.

In addition to appointing Chung, the firm has also promoted corporate lawyer Colin Smith to the partnership.

The move comes after Slaughters reaffirmed its commitment to its Hong Kong practice following the departure of two corporate partners earlier this year.

Paul Chow signed on with Linklaters in March, while Richard Jones left the firm to join the in-house legal department of GE Consumer Finance.

Chow was attracted to Linklaters’ presence in mainland China. Slaughters has preferred to maintain links with mainland firms while retaining one base in Hong Kong.
