Simmons takes on Bignons Paris ace

Simmons & Simmons in Paris has taken on a corporate and arbitration partner from French firm Bignon & Lebray.

Friedrich Niggemann, who joined Simmons at the beginning of September, will head the office's arbitration practice.
Niggemann will be bringing a number of clients with him, including major building companies in Germany, a number of German engineering companies and two or three of the big banks.
He qualified in German law but he was admitted to the French bar in 1986. Part of his role at Simmons will be to develop the firm's Franco-German corporate practice.
Niggemann said that he left Bignons because it did not have a good international network. “Commercial Law Affiliates (CLA) is strong in the US but weak on the Continent and especially in Germany,” he explained.
His move follows the recruitment of Thierry Gontard, who left Bignons to join Simmons in May.
