This month’s International Signal offers a first-ever look at the legal market in Italy. The report sets out the stratification of the market by firmwide headcount at domestic firms and comparing them to the international firms that are present there.

When assessing the size and shape of the domestic Italian market three distinct groupings of firms emerge based on headcount metrics. A set of two firms make up the largest domestic practices, both having more than 500 lawyers firmwide. In the next tier sit three firms with substantial headcounts of between 300 and 499 lawyers among their offices worldwide. The final strata, characterised by an overwhelming focus on the domestic market and their lack of offices outside Italy, is composed of smaller firms with a headcount of 299 lawyers or less. A set of international firms that are also present in the Italian market make up the final grouping of firms analysed in the report. They all broke into the Italian market around the 1990s and have a strategic focus on specific areas rather than a full-service approach.

To find out which firms make up these four categories and read the full report now.
