Shoosmiths has been shortlisted for the ‘Asset Finance Legal Provider of the Year’ award at the Leasing Life Awards 2014. The awards recognise the achievements of the European asset finance industry.
They will take place directly after the annual Leasing Life Conference in Warsaw, Poland, on 27 November. An independent panel of judges assesses the ‘Asset Finance Legal Provider of the Year’ award on team expertise; visibility and influence in the marketplace; versatility — both in terms of types of work undertaken (litigation, transactional and so on) and sectors worked in (fleet, equipment, large ticket, SME, motor and so on); volume and complexity of work undertaken; and notable successes on behalf of clients.
The Shoosmiths team — which advises clients such as Hitachi Rail, Stagecoach Group, BNP Paribas, Volkswagen Financial Services (UK) and Santander Consumer (UK) — has recovered more than £4m for clients in the last 12 months.
One of this year’s most notable asset finance projects has been for Hitachi Rail, of whom Shoosmiths has most recently been main adviser to on a £3bn project relating to the trains and depots for the East Coast Main Line. The project is a PFI project and has a total reported value in excess of £7bn. In July 2012, Shoosmiths completed the first part of the transaction (which relates to the trains and depots for the Great Western Main Line, with a reported value of circa £4.5bn).
