US firm Shearman & Sterling has won a lead role advising on the acquisition of General Motors business Hummer.

Hong Kong-based partner Paul Strecker and Beijing partner Lee Edwards are advising Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Co on the proposed acquisition of Hummer from GM.

As part of the Hummer deal GM expects to be able to save more than 3,000 jobs.

Weil Gotshal & Manges is advising GM.

Earlier this week The Lawyer reported on Shearman Dusseldorf-based partner Harald Selzner advising a number of GM creditors and a number of suppliers to GM on its bankruptcy filing (2 June).

Selzner is also advising the Federal Republic of Germany  in the sale of GM Europe subsidiary Adam Opel to a consortium led by Canadian auto parts maker Magna International.

Herbert Smith alliance firm Gleiss Lutz is advising Magna.
