US firm Seyfarth Shaw has scored four litigation partners from Bingham McCutchen, in the first known group lateral move from the 80 partners left by Morgan Lewis & Bockius at the ailing firm.
Bingham partners William Berkowitz, John Skelton, James McGrath and Brandon Bigelow joined Seyfarth’s Boston office today, at the same time as almost 770 of their former colleagues started new jobs at Morgan Lewis (24 November 2014).
Berkowitz and McGrath previously served as co-chairs of Bingham’s distribution and franchise practice group. Berkowitz was also the co-chair of Bingham’s global antitrust and trade regulation practice group.
Seyfarth’s litigation department chair Katherine Perrelli said: “Their practices align very well with our litigation department’s national footprint and we see many opportunities to grow client relationships across our platform.”
The firm has also hired three other Bingham lawyers: associates Caleb Schlinger and Katherine Moskop in Boston and staff lawyer Ardrelle Bahar, who joins Seyfarth’s Washington DC office.
These are the first of many expected moves from the 80 Bingham partners, lawyers and staffers left out of Morgan Lewis’ raid earlier this month (17 November 2014). The firm opted against a merger, instead choosing a mass lateral hire of 226 partners after reaching agreements with key Bingham partners (7 November 2014).
