Salans launches six-strong team in Frankfurt

Salans has launched a new office in Frankfurt with a team of Aderhold Gassner partners Matthias Haas and Holger Scheer and four associates.

The team will be joined in Frankfurt by partner Detlef Spranger and an associate from Salans’ Berlin office, with an emphasis on M&A, private equity, finance litigation, international real estate and tax.

Salans global managing partner Dariusz Oleszczuk said: “The point is that we would like to make clients and the market realise that we are a serious player in Germany, with more ambitions than just Berlin.”

Oleszczuk said Salans in Germany plans to open in Munich next, with a possible opening in Düsseldorf to follow. The firm plans to bring each of all of these new offices to size comparable to or greater than the Berlin office, he said.

The Berlin office currently has 59 lawyers, including 15 partners, and accounts for around £10m, or 7 per cent of Salans global revenue of £143m.

The 2008 budget projection for Berlin is £13.2m.

In the next six months, Oleszczuk said that he hoped to at least double the size of the Frankfurt office, and that he had already been looking at taking on various teams from local firms.

He said: “We are also sniffing around various international firms [in Frankfurt], including some US firms which are not having such successful operations these days.”

The Frankfurt office opening follows Salans recently opening up in Hong Kong and hoping to set up in Beijing soon (as reported (The Lawyer, 26th May).

The firm already has an office in Shanghai and a strong network in Central and Eastern Europe.
