No5 Chambers barrister S Chelvan, has returned from Dublin having given a masterclass on LGBTI asylum for the Irish Refugee Council.

Over 60 judges, lawyers, government officers, refugee representatives and activists packed the lecture room at the home of the Irish Bar Council, where Chelvan provided two hours of training on the specific needs of asylum seekers claiming on grounds of sexual or gender identity.  

The Masterclass included audience participation  (see above photograph, courtesy from the Irish Refugee Council).  Next Wednesday, Chelvan will be presenting a paper for a Roundtable  on Asylum Credibility, hosted by the School of Law, Glasgow University.
