A 29-year-old man from Edgbaston had been jailed for 18 months for driving a courtesy car into the windows of an accident firm, One Call Accident Management. CCTV footage showed that the Mandip Dhillon caused £21,000 worth of damage by reversing into the firm after the firm demanded he returned the hire car.
It was heard that the vehicle was due to be returned to the firm two days prior to the incident and Dhillon had received phone calls demanding its return.
No5 Criminal Law Barrister, Richard Gibbs, prosecuting at Birmingham Crown Court, said: ‘On March 26 the vehicle was returned to the trading park. It was driven at what can only be described as speed, first hitting a Bentley Continental, owned by the head of the company, and then strikingly crashing through the front of the office building that had been a glass and metal showroom.’
Immediately behind this vehicle were a number of staff sitting at their desks. One of those members of staff was sitting very close to the front of the window.
‘When the defendant reversed at speed through the window it hit his desk, forcing the desk back into him.’
Dhillon has been now jailed for 18 months along with a driving ban of 18 months and has been ordered to pay £500 compensation.
