The FTSE 250 is a barometer of UK performance. While it is less global than the FTSE 100, its reduced emphasis on financial services and natural resources and its wider spread of sectors mean that as a group, the midcaps have consistently outperformed the FTSE 100. Furthermore, they also tend to be more active in mergers and acquisitions. No wonder that for so many UK law firms, the FTSE 250 represents a prize. And for in-house counsel, a highly rewarding role.
