Quinn Emanuel launches in Sydney with HSF partners

Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan has hired two Herbert Smith Freehills partners to launch its first move into the Australian market.

Commercial litigators Michael Mills and Michelle Fox will be co-managing partners of the Sydney base and join alongside long-term Quinn Emmanuel partner James Webster, who is relocating from Los Angeles.

HSF Australia managing partner Jason Ricketts said: ‘Whilst it is disappointing to see Michelle and Michael leave, they are seeking a new challenge at a US trial law firm and both have made a significant contribution to the firm in their time as partners.”

Mills and Fox,who were based in Herbert Smith Freehills’ Sydney office, are the latest in a series of partners to jump ship since the merger with Australian firm Freehills last October.

They both previously co-headed the HSF insurance and product liability practices in Sydney.

Mills specialised in dispute resolution, alternative dispute resolution and insurance work, while Fox specialised in alternative dispute resolution and multi-party arbitrations and mediations, she has practiced the US, the UK and Australia.

The announcement comes just weeks after long-serving senior HSF litigator Ted Greeno resigned from the firm’s disputes practice to join Quinn Emmanuel’s London office (27 March 2013).

HSF is currently undergoing restructuring at the hands of global corporate chief Mike Ferraro who has been brought in from the firms Melbourne office (9 May 2013).

This is the second international opening for Quinn Emmanuel this year – the firm opened in Paris in January.
