Proof that lawyers really do like to read the small print arrived last week when an anonymous lawyer called to point out what appeared to be a typo. The ‘mistake’ was in the EJ Legal ad on page 53 of the 21 August issue.
In an advert for commercial property lawyers, the copy reads: “This expanding property team housed within a medium-sized City firm seeks a senior assistant to handle a mixed bag of commercial property work. Lawyers are always bowled over by this firm’s humanity and truly down to earth attitude where there is no room for pre-Madonnas.”
An EJ insider told Tulkinghorn that the description “was probably deliberate”. As in: “Commercial property lawyer required, two-to-five years’ PQE, no room for anyone who is just about to become the undisputed Queen of Pop and forge a hugely successful singing career.”
We think not, but nice try.
