Move of the week

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has appointed ­partner Nigel Blackaby as head of the firm’s US arbitration group. Blackaby recently ­relocated to the US from Paris and will be responsible for managing and developing the arbitration group’s New York and Washington DC presences, which consist of partners Lucy Reed, Brian King and Alex Yanos. The group is also home to 20 full-time associates.

• Bryan Cave has recruited Ian Williams as counsel in its London restructuring group. He was formerly the head of Geldards’ insolvency group.
• Jones Day has expanded its London litigation practice with the appointment of real estate ­litigation partner Richard Anyamene, who joins from the London office of LG, where he was a partner in the firm’s real estate ­litigation team.
• New York-based Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton partner Jonathan Blackman has ­relocated to the firm’s London office to boost the City litigation team.
• Corporate lawyer Adam Penny has joined Brown Rudnick as a partner in London. He was previously a director in the M&A group at Credit Suisse.

South

• South East firm ASB Law has taken on tax associate Estelle Tague from Mayfair private client firm Gordon Dadds.

North

• Helen Kernot has joined Napthens as an ­assistant in its Blackpool wills and estate team. She left Lytham firm Coupe Bradbury Solicitors to take up the role.

Scotland

• Construction lawyer Jennifer Young, a partner at Ledingham Chalmers in Aberdeen, has been appointed as a member of the board of governors at the city’s Robert Gordon University.

Europe

• Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel has boosted its Paris office with two new partners. Luc Saucier joins the corporate team from Paul Hastings, while competition associate Marco ­Plankensteiner is promoted to partner.
• Austrian firm Schoenherr has announced that partner Peter Feyl and senior associate Andreas Baumann are to head its new-look tax practice.
• Ireland’s McCann FitzGerald has promoted Aiden Small to of counsel in its banking and financial services department.

Asia and middle east

• Hogan & Hartson has recruited corporate counsel Charles Kelly in Abu Dhabi. He joins from Reed Smith.
• Veteran Vinson & Elkins partner Gary Kotara has relocated from Dubai to Hong Kong to work in the energy and projects practice.
• Latham & Watkins finance partner Philipp von Randow has relocated to Doha in Qatar from Frankfurt.
• Herbert Smith has rehired former corporate partner Jeremy Xiao, who left for Credit Suisse in 2007, as a consultant.

US

• Former Time Warner vice-president and
chief patent counsel Charles Fish has joined ­Chadbourne & Park as counsel in New York.
• Edward O’Callaghan, a former assistant US attorney for the Southern District of New York, has joined Nixon Peabody as a partner in its government investigations and white-collar defence practice in New York. Prior to this he was a senior adviser in John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign.
• The Miami office of K&L Gates has taken on Richard Winston as a partner in the tax and ­corporate practices. Winston joins K&L Gates from Hughes Hubbard & Reed.

Offshore

• Harney Westwood & Riegels has appointed Sarah Dobbyn as head of litigation and insolvency in the Cayman Islands. She was previously a ­partner at the firm’s office in the British Virgin Islands.
• Carey Olsen has boosted its Jersey corporate team by promoting Guy Coltman to partner. Before joining the firm Coltman worked in the London office of Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom.

• The Judicial Appointments Commission has appointed Nigel Richardson, partner and head of crime at Hodge Jones & Allen, as a deputy ­district judge in the Magistrates’ Courts.
