Olswang has hired seven lawyers for its German patent team, including the former head of legacy Hammonds’ Munich office, Herbert Kunz.

Kunz has joined the firm as a partner, alongside five other lawyers from his boutique firm Dr Kunz & Kollegen. Olswang has also hired Tobias Reker as a legal director from an in-house role at Knorr-Bremse.

Kunz left Hammonds in 2009 to join Heisse Kursawe Eversheds (20 October 2009), prompting Hammonds to close Munich in favour of a local relationship (23 February 2010). He quit Eversheds in 2012 to set up his own practice.

He will head up Olswang’s patent filing and prosecution practice in Germany.

Olswang launched its IP-focused Munich office in 2011 (7 July 2011). It has continued expanding in the country since then, with recent hires including finance lawyer Hans Recker for its Berlin office (23 January 2014).

The firm also entered into a strategic partnership with restructuring specialist Christian Köhler-Ma late last year (29 November 2013).

The patent hires in Munich bring the firm’s European patent team to 40 fee-earners across its London, Munich, Paris, Brussels and Madrid offices.
