After a relatively quiet first half to the year, the offshore legal profession is on the move again.

Isle of Man firm Cains is opening in Singapore and Collas Day is moving into London. Harneys has merged with Cayman firm CS Gill & Co to give it a base on the island, while Maitland Group took its first step into the offshore profession with the hire of Walkers partner Sara Collins.

Meanwhile, a little closer to home, Mourant du Feu & Jeune chief executive Stephen Ball has resigned and is off to join a hedge fund. Ball was the man who oversaw the Jersey firm’s ultimately unsuccessful merger talks with Walkers. Ball has been replaced with Jonathan Rigby, who, as part of this Offshore Special Report, explains how Jersey is competing with the British Virgin Isles on unregulated funds.

Elsewhere, this comprehensive report examines the key developments in the offshore world, while also looking at how jurisdictions are becoming increasingly competitive.
