Officers mount housing claim

A case in which four Sheffield police officers are suing their Chief Constable and South Yorkshire Police Authority for damages in a dispute over housing allowances is heading for the High Court. The four who gave up jobs to join the South Yorkshire Force claim they were told they would be entitled to housing allowance of around £2,000 a year. However, they say that after they resigned from their old jobs, they discovered police allowances had changed and new officers were no longer entitled to the allowance.
