A teenager convicted of the murder of Ozell Pemberton in a revenge attack has been named after Judge Parker QC lifted reporting restrictions while handing down sentence.

Amir Hussain, 17, knifed Mr Pemberton in the heart following an incident between two groups in the Pype Hyes Park area of Birmingham, in which a youth sustained a facial injury and received hospital treatment.

Ingram, 21, of Banners Grove, Erdington, was also found guilty of murder and jailed of life. He was ordered to serve a minimum of 24 years before being considered for parole.

Both No5 Barristers Sarah Allen who was led by Mike Duck QC prosecuted. Mr Duck described the earlier incident as “…the catalyst for what happened. It was the reason for the revenge attack.”

Afterwards the defendants and two others met at Chester Road train station and travelled by train to Sutton Coldfield. After getting off they went to Lower Parade and confronted Mr Pemberton outside McDonalds.

Mr Duck said they were armed with a “ferocious weapon” and that Hussain’s co-accused Oscar Ingram had initially swung at the victim before dropping the knife.

Mr Pemberton had tried to retreat. Hussain had then picked up the knife and delivered the fatal blow. The attack happened at about 3.30pm in front of a large number of shoppers and commuters. Mr Pemberton collapsed and died in the street.

The teenager, of Church Street, Lozells, was found guilty of murder by a jury at Birmingham Crown Court following a three-week trial

Sentencing him to life at Her Majesty’s Pleasure with a minimum 16 years Judge Parker lifted reporting restrictions telling Hussain: “No-one forced you to commit this offence.”
