NHS IP arm appoints new director

The intellectual property arm of the NHS for the capital, NHS Innovations London (NHSIL), has appointed a new director of IP management.

Alan Driver joins NHSIL from Partnerships UK, a joint venture with HM Treasury which helps public bodies commercialise their assets, where he was project director.

Prior to that, Driver was a founder of drug discovery company Ribo Targets while between 1989 to 1997 he worked for the Medical Research Council (MRC) as a technology transfer manager.

Driver said his combined start-up, MRC and government background would compliment NHSIL’s core business.

NHSIL is the London branch of the national NHS Innovations Hubs scheme which aims to help NHS Trust staff convert their ideas into products or services with healthcare benefits and/or commercial potential.
