Mourants snares Stephen Ball for CEO role

Kroll international general counsel Stephen Ball is joining Mourant de Feu & Jeune as chief executive officer (CEO) in the summer, ending the firm’s nine-month search for its first externally recruited CEO.

Ball has held senior roles both in-house and in private practice. Prior to joining Kroll, he was Gibson Dunn & Crutcher‘s UK head of finance and before that chief general counsel at Nomura.

Ball told The Lawyer: “It’s a really exciting opportunity. They’re a visionary and forward-thinking firm and approach their business in a transparent way.”

Mourants has set itself apart from its offshore rivals by promoting financial transparency. It was the only firm in The Lawyer’s survey of the top 20 offshore law firms (23 January) to officially reveal its turnover of £23m.

The past year has been one of expansion for Mourants. In October it opened in Guernsey and its London office now warrants a second partner.

Ball said: “The three elements to our strategy will be growth, international expansion and risk diversification.”
