Morgan Lewis finalises transfer of 226 Bingham partners, 556 staff and associates

Morgan Lewis & Bockius has finalised the transfer of 226 partners and 525 other associates and legal professionals from Bingham McCutchen.

Around 750 Bingham staff will start their new jobs at Morgan Lewis today, the firm has confirmed in a statement.

“In Morgan Lewis, we have found a perfect new home,” Bingham managing partner Steve Browne said. “We already serve many of the same clients, but we will now have the added resources to assist them in new ways and in new markets, including in Europe and Latin America, and in the center of the United States.”

Morgan Lewis chair Jami McKeon said: “In welcoming more than 750 talented lawyers and staff from Bingham today, we continue to build a firm that is capable of mobilising teams to partner with clients on their most pressing legal and business challenges wherever they arise around the globe.”

The firm has also announced that it is taking on three new offices in Hartford (Connecticut), Santa Monica and California. It is unclear whether the firm plans to take on any of the other Bingham offices.

It is understood that Addleshaw Goddard is advising the firm on the mass transfer (19 November 2014).

The firm’s 226 partner scoop is one person less than previously thought (18 November 2014); whereas the fate of the 80 other Bingham partners is still unknown after Morgan Lewis opted against a merger earlier this month (17 November 2014).
