Australia’s Minter Ellison has raided Masons in China to strengthen its Shanghai office with a new figurehead.
David Cox has been appointed to the newly created position of head of the firm’s Shanghai office. He replaces senior associate YiYi Wu who has been the firm’s key contact point in Shanghai, following the official opening of the office in 2001.
Cox joins from Masons where he was a key member of Masons’ Greater China team and had spent two years as the chief executive of the firm’s Guangzhou office. He has also worked for the Masons in Hong Kong.
His appointment brings Minter Ellison’s team in Shanghai to six. The firm first established a presence in China through a joint venture in Beijing in 1987, but opened its own branded office in early 2001 after being granted a licence to practice in China in 1999.
