Mills & Reeve has kicked off the autumn 2021 trainee retention season by keeping on 100 per cent of its second-year trainees for the first time ever.

All 18 of its qualifiers will take up permanent newly qualified (NQ) roles at the firm. Three will join the commercial, IP and IT group, another three go to corporate and three more to private client. Two NQs apiece join the banking and disputes teams, with the final six taking up positions in construction, employment, insurance, planning, real estate and tax.

Six of the NQs will be based in Cambridge, four in Birmingham and three each in Norwich, Manchester and London. It is the most NQs the London and Manchester offices have ever taken.

Training partner Caroline Dean said: “We are absolutely delighted to be able to retain 100 per cent of our trainees qualifying this year – they have all worked incredibly hard and under really challenging circumstances with over half of their training contract completed remotely. They are an incredibly talented and innovative group and will be a huge asset to Mills & Reeve, and we look forward to seeing them take their careers forward with us.”
