Tom Owen

Keating Chambers

2022 was a memorable year for one of the Bar’s most prominent up-and-coming construction barristers Tom Owen. The Keating Chambers’ tenant made history when he was appointed as the youngest-ever civil litigation Recorder (a part-time circuit judge) at just 32. Having built his practice in the highly technical world of construction law, Owen has since been able to gain a broader understanding across the breadth of civil law. Last year saw Owen victorious in a number of high-profile and hard-fought cases. In what was one of the most important construction cases of the year, Owen successfully argued for his client Abbey Healthcare in the Court of Appeal to overturn a High Court’s decision over the right to adjudicate on collateral warranties. The case will now move to the Supreme Court after permission was granted to Simply Construct to appeal.

Back in the Technology and Construction Court, Owen acted on some of the most cutting-edge matters in construction law, including issues surrounding cladding and companies in ‘company voluntary arrangements’.
