Sara George

Sidley Austin

Originally an Egyptologist and still a fluent reader of Egyptian hieroglyphics, Sara George has always loved investigating. A former prosecutor for the Financial Services Authority, George is an expert in international criminal and human rights investigations and currently leads Sidley Austin’s crisis management and strategic response team in Europe.

In 2024, George will continue to lead an investigation for Utah-headquartered marketing company doTerra into media allegations that aspects of its third-party supply chain in Somaliland may have developed substandard working conditions and that agents of its Somaliland-based supplier may have sexually assaulted women several years ago.

George has pioneered corporate investigations in countries with no history of this, such as in the Horn of Africa, focusing on driving creative remediation to put things right for corporations and the communities they operate in following an investigation. This can include targeted and appropriate community-based redress schemes.

George has a love of educational radio and podcasting, in which she talks about money laundering and financial crime, and is commonly featured on BBC radio. Since the invasion of Ukraine, George has been British charity RE:ACT Disaster Response’s main legal advisor on the conflict. She has provided vital pro bono legal advice, from conducting due diligence on local partners and charitable donations to helping navigate money laundering risk and distinguishing between lethal and non-lethal aid and dual-use technology.
