Richard Given

OpenPaydGroup General Counsel

Richard is Group General Counsel at OpenPayd which is building embedded finance and banking-as-a-service infrastructure that powers business growth. Previously he was General Counsel at 10x Banking, the cloud native core banking platform provider. Richard has also been Deputy General Counsel at the global bank, HSBC and a Regional General Counsel at the IT company Cisco.
He drives effective and timely decision-making for complex business as a key business partner to other stakeholders. Richard is natural disrupter who regularly re-works the way legal services are provided, challenging all pre-conceptions and constantly striving to find better ways to use technology for the delivery of legal services. He also works on supporting in-house lawyers on managing the tensions inherent in the regulatory requirement to be independent while also advising your employer. He was closely involved in the 2023 complaint letter to the SRA on this issue.
Richard is an alumnus of the international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and of Cambridge University (spending far more time playing rugby than in the lecture halls!). He lives in Devon overlooking the River Exe estuary and enjoys walking the Tors of Dartmoor whenever he gets the chance (not that his 4 miniature long-haired Dachshunds can join him on those walks; their legs are far too small…!).
