Matthew Wort began his career with an idealistic mind, hoping as an employment lawyer to see justice done for employees being short-changed. On arrival at Anthony Collins, however, he saw the firm’s organisational clients doing real good for society and threw himself into acting for the likes of care provider Methodist Homes and the charity Sense. As the firm’s lead for the health and social care sector, he spent 2020 and 2021 talking hundreds of clients through the rapidly changing legal landscape.

There will inevitably be more of the same in 2022 but the year will bring two additional challenges. In particular, Wort is an expert on the subject of mandatory vaccinations in care homes and expects a deluge of Employment Tribunal claims from some of the estimated 100,000 people who will leave the sector when mandatory vaccination is introduced in April. He also hopes Anthony Collins will have a big part to play in the coming inquiry into the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, which will have a massive impact on the future of social care. It feels likely he will soon be helping to shape the sector, as well as advising it.
