Manchester-based partner Kuljeet Gill has found her sweet spot in structuring elaborate joint ventures between the public and private sectors. The leading light of the firm’s niche sector group dubbed “Governments and Strategic Projects”, Gill started working in the early 2000s on public sector regeneration schemes and regional development agencies.

In recent years, she has led on the £800m Airport City project in Manchester, an investment from China’s Beijing Construction Engineering Group. She is currently acting on the delivery of a £1.5bn new innovation district, ID Manchester, a project that will boost the UK’s position in the science and technology sector. The initiative comes as the university decided to open up part of the redevelopment of its campus to commercial opportunities rather than core academic facilities. It marks another complex joint venture, this time between the University of Manchester and Bruntwood SciTech, the legal structuring aspects of which were largely orchestrated by Gill.

The partner was also key in securing spots on recently reviewed Government panels, working side by side with a practice that has recently acted on the Post Office Horizon IT Inquiry and for the Government of Libya on international arbitration work.
