Julianne Hughes Jennett

Quinn Emanuel

Julianne Hughes-Jennett joined Quinn Emanuel’s London office in 2019 as head of ESG litigation and has already put the office on the map for human rights and ESG work.

Leading the team acting pro bono for Ukraine in inter-state proceedings against Russia, the suit seeks to end Russia’s military aggression and get full redress for all individual victims of Russia’s conduct. The claim is thought to be worth at least $80bn and alleges egregious breaches of the European Convention on Human Rights. The nature of this claim has meant a team of 40 lawyers at Quinn were working on the case well before the date it was filed from across its international offices as they faced the staggering task of marshalling the evidence of Russia’s attack. Last October, the team filed a several hundred-page submission on the merits, including multiple witness statements and expert evidence.

Not only is Hughes-Jennett defending a leading car manufacturer in the latest group emission claims before the High Court, she is also advising Aabar Holdings Sarl, a subsidiary of the state-owned Emirati wealth fund Mubadala, in a claim against Glencore and six of its board members. The securities group claim is the first under sections 90 and 90A of the Financial Services and Markets Act to be brought regarding ESG statements.
