As a child growing up on an Essex council estate, Cloisters’ Jason Galbraith-Marten QC may never have imagined that he would one day help reshape employment rights in the UK, but that is exactly what he did last year.

In July, Galbraith-Marten convinced the Supreme Court that Uber taxi drivers should be classified as employed workers, entitling them to minimum wage and holiday pay protections for the first time. Already highly respected for his encyclopaedic knowledge of employment law, the ruling confirmed Galbraith-Marten as among the sharpest minds at the employment bar.

As well as currently acting in an ongoing mediation concerning the holiday rights of PSNI officers going back to 1996, Galbraith has also been called upon to advise major corporates on equal pay policies, underlining his expertise in the arena. Later this year he will appear for the Police Federation of England and Wales and Scottish Police Federation over claims both failed to prioritise their younger members’ interests in pension negotiations with the Government.
