Ed Coulson

BCLP

BCLP’s Ed Coulson led the team that secured a victory for Royal Mail and BT last year in the leading follow-on damages claim in the long-running trucks cartel litigation, with the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) awarding Royal Mail £35.1m and BT £3.4m in the first claim of its kind to go to trial in the UK. Not only did the team take home the trophy for Litigation Team of the Year at The Lawyer Awards 2023 for their work on the case, but Royal Mail awarded BCLP a spot on its panel for the client focus, passion and energy shown.

Coulson and his competition litigation team are also on several blockbuster cases that will start hitting the courts this year, including acting for Tesco, Enterprise, delivery company BFS and Associated British Foods in the second wave of trucks litigation. They also secured the mandate to represent Thames Water in the water company class action brought by class representative Carolyn Roberts in the CAT, a novel case, the certification of which is being closely watched by the environmental and competition community. Also heading for a case management conference this year is the follow-on damages claim brought by Whistl against Royal Mail based on an Ofcom infringement decision, with the company once again calling upon Coulson and his team to represent it.
