Dr Tom Reader an Associate Professor at the LSE’s Department of Psychological and Behavioural Science. Tom is a psychologist, directs an MSc in Organisational and Social Psychology, and has published and consulted widely on the role of organisational culture in institutional failures and accidents. Tom’s current work explores the idea that organisational culture can be systematically measured (e.g., using naturally occurring institutional data) and used to predict future risk. His research has explored the association between safety culture and incidents in the aviation and energy industries, predicting medical errors from patient’ reports of hospital culture, and the influence of national culture upon organizational culture in multi-national industries. Tom’s work has been published in leading journals, including: the BMJ; Human Relations; Journal of Business Ethics; Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology, and Risk Analysis.
