Roundtable C: Supply chain due diligence

On 1 June 2023, the European Parliament agreed on its position on the European Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive, which aims to foster sustainable and responsible corporate behaviour and anchor human rights and environmental considerations in companies’ operations and corporate governance. The growing due diligence obligations are going to require a huge change in governance for most businesses.

• What is your level of responsibility when trading with others and what do we need to be telling our excos and boards about this?• How are legal teams approaching this required change? How are they changing and updating terms? How can you move the needle? What different approaches can you take?
• Establishing and clearly defining the standards you require your suppliers to meet. Do you do this by contractual enforcement, or through codes of conduct or risk assessment questionnaires?
• Should you be providing training for your suppliers, and if so, what standards are you imparting to them, expecting from them, requiring from them?
• Collaborating with your procurement and supply functions in order to understand the risks and find ways for advising them.
