McDermott kicks off restructuring focus

McDermott Will & Emery is ramping up its restructuring capabilities with a hire from boutique firm Simmons Cooper Andrew.

Charles Shiramba, who was a partner at Simmons Cooper, will join McDermott’s 40-strong global restructuring team as a partner.

The hire is part of the firm’s wider strategy to build up its capabilities in restructuring in preparation for further market volatility.

McDermott’s head of restructuring Georgia Quenby said: “We’ve been looking at our restructuring capabilities for a number of months now. There will be companies that have been affected by the recent credit crunch so it’s important for us to have enough people who can deal with these issues.”

Quenby added that the London office is hoping to recruit a further four lawyers during the next six months.

“I imagine that one effect of the credit crunch will be the impact it’ll have on some companies’ pensions schemes. This is something I expect we will receive a number of enquiries on,” Quenby said.
